What to Expect
Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you have been in therapy before, taking those first steps with a new therapist can feel scary. I want to make sure my clients feel comfortable and understand the process.
Here's an overview of getting started:
-
A brief phone call to make sure I'm the best match for your needs and schedule. I will gather some basic contact and insurance (if applicable) information.
-
I will send an email invitation to complete intake paperwork and make an appointment, if we haven't already done so. If you're using in-network insurance benefits you will also set up an account with Headway for insurance processing. I will help you with this.
-
Before our appointment you will get an email with the link for our video call. If you're using a laptop or desktop computer all you need to do is follow the link. If you're using a mobile device, such as a phone or tablet, you will need to download the Telehealth by SimplePractice App.
-
The first session is largely focused on gathering information about you, the issues you would like to address, the therapeutic process, and developing a treatment plan.
-
You have the option to set up recurring appointments or schedule as you go.
It is important to note that therapy isn't something that happens to you and is a process that involves your active participation and work outside the therapy sessions.
