What to Expect

Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you have been in therapy before, taking those first steps with a new therapist can feel scary. I want to make sure my clients feel comfortable and understand the process.

Here's an overview of getting started:

  1. A brief phone or video call to make sure we're a good fit. I'll ask you about why you're seeking a therapist, make sure our schedule match and discuss insurance (if applicable).

  2. If we decide to move forward, I will send an email invitation to complete intake paperwork. If you're using in-network insurance benefits you will also set up an account with Headway for insurance processing.

  3. Before our appointment you will get an email with the link for our video call. If you're using a laptop or desktop computer all you need to do is follow the link. If you're using a phone or tablet, you will need to download the Telehealth by SimplePractice App.

  4. The first session is largely focused on gathering information about you, the issues you would like to address, the therapeutic process, and developing a treatment plan.

  5. You have the option to set up recurring appointments or schedule as you go.

It is important to note that therapy isn't something that happens to you and is a process that involves your active participation and work outside the therapy sessions.
