Burnout

Burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that can occur when demands outweigh what you can cope with. Burnout can happen for different reasons including:

  • A workplace or role demanding more than can what reasonably be done or causing persistently high levels of stress.

  • Giving more of your time, attention, or effort than what can be sustained long term.

  • Perfectionism.

  • Struggling to say 'no' or set limits.

  • Being asked to do something without the tools, resources, or training you need.

  • Not being valued or rewarded for your efforts.

Burnout is often seen in the workplace but can also happy to parents, family caregivers, and students.

Signs of burnout include:

  • Fatigue

  • Detachment

  • Anxiety

  • Loss of motivation

  • Feeling cynical

  • Less satisfaction or joy

  • Feeling defeated or useless

  • Irritability

  • Difficulty Concentrating

  • Muscle tension

  • Difficulty sleeping

Unresolved burnout can lead to anxiety, depression, or health problems. Recovering from burnout requires rest, self care and, often, uncovering underlying issues that may have contributed to the burnout.

I can guide you on your burnout recovery journey and help you develop the tools needed to build resiliency and balance.
