What is Caregiver Fatigue?

Caregiver fatigue is the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion that can occur from the stress of caring for another individual.

Here are some signs you may be experiencing caregiver fatigue or burnout:

  • Feeling fatigued

  • Increased feelings of stress and anxiety

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Irritability

  • Feeling alone or isolated

  • Feeling down or depressed

  • Feelings of anger or resentment towards the person you are caring for or others

  • Neglecting your own needs such as nutritious meals, socializing, or your own doctor's appointments

Whether you're caring for an elderly parent, sick or injured spouse, or someone with special needs you are likely dealing with loneliness and isolation, fatigue, stress, resentment, and relationship issues.

The act of caregiving itself often limits one's access to help and support. I spent nearly a decade as a hospice social worker working with families caring for their loved ones and understand the complexities of the caregiver role and the support needs of caregivers.

One of the benefits of teletherapy is that it provides much greater ease of access for caregivers who are often limited in how much they can leave home. I would like to help support you on your caregiving journey.
